CLIENT JOURNEY

Every client’s nutrition therapy journey at Alimente is unique.

These five steps are core milestones that will guide the work with your
registered dietitian as you tailor the process to fit your needs and pace.

01

Discovery

Book a virtual or in-person meeting at Alimente, free of charge. You'll learn more about our collaborative approach to nutrition behavior change and have a chance to ask questions.

02

Learning

Get curious about how nutrition affects your mental and physical health while your dietitian learns about your values, motivations and personality during each session.

03

Collaboration

Engage in shared decision-making: an evidence-based approach to set nutrition goals and trial strategies that prioritize empathy, flexibility, and motivation.

04

Stability

Reflect on your progress and focus your nutrition care plan toward resiliency and sustainability as you move through life's challenges.

05

Support

Carry forward the skills and insights from our work together when regular sessions are no longer needed. Check-in appointments are always welcomed.

We're here to guide you through any step of your journey.

  • What is a Registered Dietitian?
A registered dietitian (RD) is a healthcare professional that specializes in how nutrition plays a part in human health. RDs provide evidence-based guidance to support health through nutrition, and work in tandem with general practitioners, specialists, and other public health advocates to help clients develop practical, sustainable approaches to eating.
  • How is working with a dietitian different from following an online nutrition plan or app?
Online tools can provide general information, but they're not able to weave together your medical history, cultural background, mental health, or lived experiences and craft an individualized approach. A dietitian coaches and guides based on a comprehensive understanding of your health and personal context. Importantly, dietitians can make adjustments if unexpected challenges in other areas of your life emerge.
  • Do I need a referral from my doctor to work with you?
No. You can schedule directly without a referral. If you would like your doctor or another provider involved in your care, we can coordinate with your consent.
  • Is your office accessible to clients with mobility challenges?
The office is located on the second floor of a building that is only accessible by stairs. For clients with mobility needs, virtual appointments are available. Please contact me if you have any questions about access or accommodations.
  • What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
I require at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. If you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice, you may be charged 50% of the session fee. If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, or do not attend the session, you will be responsible for the full session fee. If you arrive late, we will use the remaining time available. Each client has one grace cancellation that can be used at any time without penalty or explanation. Fees may also be waived in cases of illness, family emergency, or other extenuating circumstances. If you pause sessions or move to an “as needed” schedule, please know that returning after more than six months may require being placed on a waitlist.
  • How often will we meet?
Session frequency and pacing will be discussed during our first session together and can be adjusted as your needs evolve. New clients begin by choosing a 6- or 12-session package. This structure supports realistic, sustained progress, as nutrition behavior change takes time and consistency. After completing an initial package, clients may continue with single sessions or additional 3-, 6-, or 12-session packages.
  • Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes, virtual sessions are available for clients who reside in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
  • Do you give meal plans?
In some cases, when medically indicated, we may discuss more structured nutrition approaches. With some clients, we will explore meal ideas, planning strategies, or other tools to support their goals. However, rigid meal plans are not the focus of this practice.
  • Do you work with other members of my care team (such as my therapist, PCP, or GI doctor)?
Yes, with your consent. Coordinated care can be helpful, especially if you are managing multiple conditions. I can collaborate with other providers to support consistency and integration across your care.
  • Is this a safe place for me?
Both the office space and nutrition counseling philosophy at Alimente have been built to support your autonomy and dignity. My practice is weight-inclusive and trauma-informed. I have contributed to nutrition care for clients with eating disorders and GI conditions through supervised training and continuing education.
  • Is this a good fit if I’ve had hard experiences with diets in the past?
Yes. Alimente uses a non-diet approach and you will never be expected to follow rigid plans. We welcome clients who have experienced harm from diet culture, weight stigma, or prescriptive nutrition advice.
  • Are my nutrition concerns serious enough to work with you?
You do not need a specific diagnosis or severity of symptoms to seek nutrition care. Schedule a discovery calI to learn more about how Alimente's approach can help. We can meet virtually or in-person to discuss your needs and questions.
  • Do you accept insurance?
Insurance companies can limit the scope and flexibility of nutrition care. Working outside of insurance expectations allows us to tailor care to your needs, not to insurance requirements or restrictions. I can provide a superbill, which is a type of receipt with the necessary information for out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, so I encourage you to contact your insurance provider to ask about reimbursement for Medical Nutrition Therapy. In most cases, you can use Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) to pay for nutrition therapy sessions. You may want to confirm this with your HSA or FSA provider.
  • How much do sessions cost?
Current rates for sessions and packages are available on the Pricing page. Alimente uses tiered pricing based on the Rhode Island Standard of Need budget to ensure our services are equitable and accessible.
